My articles are getting more visits on another news community site, why? My http://www.nowpublic.com/opinions/scream-9-11-global-picture got 230 with in a week views, where as the same article http://silkmesh.newsvine.com/_news/2007/10/28/1055173-the-scream-the-911-blues-oil on the vine got 15 votes which means that a possible 40 views where achieved (published 40+days ago). Today I published another article and within 4 hours it had 39 views. Newvine needs to sort out the front page lets have an option to view a complete list of published daily articles and seeds.

The problem with nowpublic is it's less friendly and slower than the vine, but you can run video's and connect up to other stories on the same subject. I expect after a time I will find nowpublic just as friendly as the vine. One pleasing think is there is no greenhouse and there does not seem to be any spammers?

I like the view counter on nowpublic and I hate to use anything Google, it takes to much time. Come on newsvine team lets have a view counter and all the things that nowpublic has got, but keep the community friendly as thats the main attraction of the vine.

once again the columnist list does not show my article and I am missing articles as I can not see all of those wrote today, the front page sucks and I am only seeing 8 articles when I asking for 15.

Important question. I wonder why it is that stories on Newsvine don't seem to get that many views. I think it's the highly social nature of the vine. There are many people reading many stories mostly of people within their "networks". My theory.

This is definitely true for me. I've established myself with enough people over the last nearly 2 years that I can easily spend the day just reading stuff which my watchlist/friends have either written or commented on. Rarely do I end up just randomly clicking on an article anymore.

Because views and votes are not the same thing. For example, I am viewing this article right now, but I have no plan to vote for its utter lack of quality or research.

on the vine got 15 votes which means that a possible 40 views where achieved

Where exactly did you pull that 40 number from?

I've found articles that I wrote that will total single digit votes that amass thousands of page views.

Yes but Adam, the Google analytics does show that articles here don't seem to get that many views.

Adam, its a guesstimate, I used google once or twice and it sucks. I want to know how many visitors I have had in one glance. As an ex-program analyst I know how bloody simple that is to place on a web page. I would also like to see all articles and seeds published to day, it easy to program that also. I am old a bloody grumpy man, I not doing any research on what can easily be seen to be wrong even by a technophobic.

I can not believe it I have complained and complained sent emails to newsvine etc, etc. Then I go on a web site and see other dot.com's can bloody well do it. I only hope that the new owners get their fingers out and bloody make newsvine programming improvements to sort this lack of insight by the old administration.

I have posted 4 articles on nowpublic.com and had 40 plus views on each within 1 hour or so. Because everybody can see my articles. I can see theirs and I can choose what I want to read. Here on the vine many good articles are lost.

The only reason I came in here is to politely ask you to stop complaining about this, otherwise I avoid your articles. I'm positive that I'm not the only one who does so.

Maybe you get more views at NowPublic (but we can't really verify that since you refuse to pull actual numbers) because you fill a niche there that we don't really need here, either because it's filled or not wanted.

Now I have another complaint I want to display 15 columnist on the front page, I can see only 12 and why has this article not appeared there? There is something really strange about the program code for that list, it beggars belief.

I used google once or twice and it sucks.

No, I think it is more so that you are clueless as to how to use it, and you are not interested in finding out. You'd rather sit back, throw baseless and valueless criticism around, and demand new features that already exist in a form 1000x more powerful than what you want.

My top seed or article, which has gotten 1,300 page views, has only 3 votes. I know this because I use Google Analytics, which allows me to see how many visits any given article or seed of mine has, how many pageviews, its bounce rate, and allows me to segment it over a specified period of time.

          ...You were saying?

          I agree.

In the three months I've had Google Analytics installed, my top article has gotten over 2,700 page views, and that was an article written in 2006. Imagine all the page views it got between 2006 and August that weren't tracked. Hell that article has more than doubled the page views my column itself got.
