2. USA handover of Iraq will take place in August 2008. 3

3. The free Iran Citizens war September 2008 will start due to threats to Iraq by the Iran government. Operation: Camel Train.

4. Impeachment proceeding against Hilary Clinton concerning election funding will rear its ugly head late October 2008.

5. Bin Laden captured in Pakistan early December 2008.

6. China starts exchanging US$ for Euros of which causes the dollar to drop 10% in value in mid December 2008.

7. Ex president George Bush will nominated to receive the Nobel Peace award for bringing peace and freedom to Iraq. December 2008.

8. Tony Blair will be included in the new years honors list and will be knighted as Lord Blair.

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

well its my best shot, of course a butter fly in Timbuktu could warp my predictions by just fluttering its wings.

The first woman president Hilary Clinton will take office in 2008.

I can guarantee that won't happen. Inauguration isn't until January 2009 ;-)

No, Senators are also impeached, and Hillary remains a US Senator.

    Really?

During the impeachment trial of Senator Blount, it was argued that the House of Representatives did not have the power to impeach members of either House of Congress; though the Senate never explicitly ruled on this argument, the House has never again impeached a member of Congress. The Constitution allows either House to expel one of its members by a two-thirds vote, which the Senate had done to Blount on the same day the House impeached him (but before the Senate heard the case).

    Source

Getting rid of a Senator or Representative takes a lot less than impeachment. All the Senate would need is a two thirds vote to expel, with no action beginning in the House at all.

Expelling and impeaching are two separate procedures. Expelling simply involves removing an individual from office. Impeachment involves charging them criminally. If Hillary is simply expelled then the question of her guilt or innocence is left undecided, to be settled in the courts or not at all. Both involve the individual leaving office, but they should not be deemed the same thing.

As for your source, it's true that we have seen a marked distaste regarding impeaching members of Congress. And some do argue that they are not civil officers, and so not subject to impeachment. But I think it's fairly plain that if one of them has been impeached before, the members of Congress at that time must have considered themselves civil officers subject to impeachment. A position which has never actually been ruled upon. Blount's impeachment was dismissed due to lack of jurisdiction, since they had expelled him from the Senate in an unrelated proceeding and he was no longer a Senator. Therefor, while it is not presently customary, Senators are still subject to impeachment until such time as law or precedent establishes that they are not. Right now, the only standing precedent is that they can be.

In fact, it's more than distaste: it is quite unclear as to whether it is even Constitutional to do so.

No it would not actually as the Euro would gain and effectively eradicate that problem.

China cannot exchange all of its holdings of US dollars for Euros at once. Thus as they start the exchange and the dollars start dropping they are lowering the value of all the dollars they have yet to exchange, thus ruining their economy.

Sure you do Adam, it's called "shorting", as I'm sure you already know, but I often buy companies short and watch them fall. After we just found out that the CEO of Countrywide was selling his shares to the total of 142 million, unbelievable, I suspect it should fall all the way down to nothing, no matter how much they can borrow. If that's not making money I don't know what is, although is a bit sad when you think about it.

A country isn't a company. If the dollar falls the US will buy less from China because Chinese products will cost more. Bad for Chinese business.

Yeah, bad analogy on my part.

If the dollar falls the US will buy less from China because Chinese products will cost more. Bad for Chinese business.

Which is exactly why we have a weak dollar policy, it's a form of protectionism to give incentive to buy American while disincentive to buy foreign, especially Chinese.

But, when you short in hopes of gaining money from a falling price, you must make sure you net position is short. If you're selling, yet maintaining a long net position, then you're sealing your own fate. Incremental dollar exchange will mean that China's net dollar position will be long for a while. I doubt it's feasible to drop its entire stash of T-bills to acquire a net short position.

            A country isn't a company.

In terms of basic economic theory, there's no difference here.

Oluseye, what a gem of an article you have re discovered there. George Monbiot is a very well respected independent minded writer and this is so prophetic it couldn't get any more accurate. I particularly liked the last few lines

I hope I've missed something here, and will be proved spectacularly wrong, but it seems to me that the American and British governments have dragged us into a mess from which we might not emerge for many years. They have unlocked the spirit of war, and it could be unwilling to return to its casket until it has traversed the world.

Actually I am very famous here in the Philippines and all the young girls smile at me, everybody looks at me when I pass by and they all call me joe.(sic)

However I just made some stupid predictions as I was to lazy to write something with a bit of substance. One gets very lazy when you have everything you want, sun shine a beautiful villa a swimming pool and a bevy of beautiful dusky maidens. (no thats not the real reason I am joking)

In reality I have everything I want a rented duplex near a nice beach scattered with rubbish and a beautiful dusky maiden to share my life. I have had the villa and the big beautiful garden and found it was very stressful and expensive to maintain the dam place after my illness last year I down sized and now don't have the problems of constantly hiring servants and ground keepers.

I never seek fame nor am I money oriented now days as I am retired living on two pensions that allow me to live in luxury in Asia if I so wished. When I am sixty five I receive my old age pension as well, what the hell I going to do with all that extra money, so much stress.

                  The real reason..........

Of course I don't believe in most of my own predictions, I built the predictions around one that I seeded the day prior to this article, because I thought the seed would shoot to the top of the vine. could-george-bush-win-the-nobel-prize.

I was disapointed and could not understand why something so ironic went un-noticed? The point is that no one seemed to see the irony concerning the Nobel prize prediction within this article.

I'm going to make the 'safe bets,' though I guess you could characterize my predictions as pessimistic. Here are my 2008 predictions:

                      1) Unless somehow Gravel, Kucinich or Paul are elected, it won't matter who is elected president, as whoever it is will undoubtedly side with corporate/money interests over the average citizen's interests. Civil liberties will further be eroded, and dissenters (pro-peace people) will be declared 'enemies of the state.'

                      2) The FEMA concentration camps will see their first influx of permanent (life-sentence or death-sentence, depending on how you look at it) prisoners (be they political dissidents, refugees from a "terror attack," or bird flu or some other pandemic victims). All the innocent-since-not-proven-guilty-people on the "terrorist watch-lists" will be paid a surprise visit by riot police who will take them to the camp in their area. Depending on level of re-education/re-indoctrination necessary to be readmitted into society, some people will find their way to the gas chambers instead of to the permanent barracks. Since food will be a short commodity with the crash of the economy, starvation will be one of the leading causes of death in the camps--as well as lack of medical treatment.

                      3) The attack on Iran will commence if it hasn't already. This will draw Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Russia and China into the war in time (probably not all of them till 2009). With the "west's" ground forces over-extended and outnumbered, this will leave it to the EU/United Nations to send troops into America (and the 'middle east') to stabilize the situation since the economy will have crashed due to major (intentional?) mistakes made by the financial, executive, judicial and congressional branches in choosing the path of war (profiteering), fixed/fraudulent elections, and tyranny over the path of peace and liberty.

                      4) The military draft will begin in late 2008 or early 2009.

                      5) Bin Laden or look-alike will still manage to release more propaganda despite probably having been killed in ~2003. Propaganda will probably will be a splice-job like recent release(s).

                      6) The skynet...errr, Galileo distribution/total information awareness system will go online in late 2008 or early 2009. The "brave new world" thought to potentially arrive in 1984 will be upon us.

                      7) Most Americans will still be too distracted by entertainment to notice much of this happening.

I honestly hope to be wrong about those predictions. I just see the 'writing on the wall' and history has this tendency to repeat itself. I'm not afraid. I am doing my part to spread the message of peaceful coexistence, though I still have issues to overcome like most every human.

Even those who would enslave or kill me are humans. I'm just trying to inspire them to act like it.

                          1. I see this is as rather likely.

                          2. Doubtful, though it depends on what you mean by "handover." Full autonomy + full pullout? A more autonomous Iraqi gov't with a US "peacekeeping force"?

                          3. I'm gonna say "no."

                          4. Nope. Even assuminga correct time frame, there's no precedent for any impeachment predicated upon something as relatively minor as campaign funding. Heck, Bush didn't even technically win and lied about WMDs, and there wasn't even a hint of any serious consideration to impeach him.

                          5. You're a more optimistic man than I.

                          6. Not gonna happen, for reasons already discussed above.

                          7. Hehehe, I hope this is a sarcastic joke.

                          8. I frankly have no idea.

                          9. I don't know if it'll be Clinton, but it'll be a Dem. Then again, I personally don't like Clinton, so that biases my opinion.

I doubt the US will bomb anyone else so soon(we all know what happened the last time that happened). They'll probably divert forces to Afganistan. On the other hand, a parting "screw you" gesture from George might take the form of a nuke.

Hilary for prez? I suppose the pendulum is due for another swing.

                                  You've got to be kidding....
1). We know a democrap is gonna take the white house.
The sequel to the Sticking up the Americans from the Clintons'.
2). I just hope to GOD she's Vice Prez.
3). JR BUSH already has IRAN on the military slate. You can't have
a nuclear Iran, in this world or the next.
4). No one cares about Bush or Blair or Hillary, they're all grasping for straws, anyway.
5). China taken EURO's, so what. Someones' got to buy all this paper
we'll selling. We take there goods, and give them an I.O.U. Seems to me
the best way to pay off heavy debt, is to wipe your backside, and flush
                                  away that last thick burrito.
5a). Don't buy into EURO's just yet. There's so much fraud in that
currency, from all the 27-united economic nations that the currency
is just as good as toilet paper. YOU know where we are moving to,
                                  an international currency.... FastPay anyone?
6). Finally, Here's a prediction that everyone can follow:
Love they neighbor, Help out your fellowman, Do onto others as you
pray they do unto you, ..... 'cause that's all we will have in the end.
When our cheap china tools break, when it's too expensive to drive,
when you've been downsized, and tossed out or to the side by the
younger crowd. Remember, in a dog eat dog world, make sure it's
                                  DOG that you are eating.

for the greater good.... sure.... Here's a prediction for ya. Euro wipe like

                                      Here's my take on "predictions":

In 1928, a famous seer was consulted by a group of German citizens who asked him to predict what life would be like in their country in 10, 15, 20, and 40 years' time.

The seer began, "Well, for a start, in 1938 your country will be ruled by a certifiable madman, who will exterminate all personal liberties, lead Germany to war, and annihilate most of European Jewry."

Stunned, the citizens said, "Well, life will surely be terrible in 1943!"

The seer said, "Umm, well, actually, no. Germany will be at the height of her power and will rule a vast empire from the Arctic to the Mediterrean, from the Atlantic to the Urals. All Europe will tremble before her!"

The befuddled citizens then said, "Times will certainly be good in 1948, won't they?"

The seer light up his pipe, took a long draw, and then said, "Unfortunately not. In 1948 much of Germany will be leveled due to great aerial bombings; it will have been crushed by a great Alliance of eastern and western powers and then divided up amongst them. Life for many Germans will be almost medieval."

Aghast, the citizens finally said, "In that case, life will be terrible in Germany in 1968!"

The seer took another draw from his pipe, thought for a moment, and then calmly said. "No. In 1968 Germany will still be divided, but life will be actually rather good for the eastern part, and exceptionally prosperous for the western half. The two Germanies will, between them, be the economic powerhouses of Europe. I daresay the western half of Germany will take its place among the great democracies of the world and, in many respects, it will be even more powerful and respected than ever!"

Having received this final prediction from the seer, the group of citizens did the only logical thing possible....

...they immediately locked him up in an insane asylum.
